The Delicious Trail Dolomiti is a trail race that is due to take place in one of Cortina d’Ampezzo's most beautiful and historically significant nature spots.
The roughly 44,2 km trail winds from the centre of Cortina around Pocol, Croda Da Lago, 5 Torri, Nuvolau, Lagazuoi and the Falzarego Pass, passing through the open air museums of the largest Great War Museum testifying to the combat seen high up in the Dolomites: the 5 Torri and Lagazuoi open-air museums and the Lagazuoi mine tunnel. The war fought in these mountains between the Italian and Austro-Hungarian armies was indeed an incredible event.
With a length of 23 km, the Short Delicious Trail Dolomiti is particularly suitable for Trail neophytes and not very well-trained mountain runners.
The trail boasts two exceptional peaks, the Lagazuoi (2.778 m) and the Nuvolau (2647 m), and two high-altitude lakes, Federa and Lìmedes, set in splendid scenery in the heart of the UNESCO Dolomites.
What makes the Delicious Trail unique, however, is its emphasis on the eno-gastronomic aspect.
The high quality of the cuisine and the attention to service on the part of the organizers of the race ensure pride of place to the event in the area's tourist programme, with emphasis on the continual drive to improve structures, gastronomy and the safeguarding of the environment.
At the refreshment stands and at the final party to be held in the pavilion Pala Delicious at Pocol (arrival point of both races) you will be able to sample special dishes prepared by the chefs of the restaurants and refuges involved. The dishes offered will be designed so as to have the same nutritional value as energy bars but will be tasty and tempting, and easily digestible for the athletes.
In the start and finishing area of Pocol, there will be facilities dedicated to the very young who also can participate in the Mini Delicious Trail. During the day, little athletes will be able to take part in special workshops, make their racing bibs and trace the trail together with grown-ups. In this way they will see that behind every small thing there is always to be found the effort and passion of countless people.
